4 Simple Rules
I have only four general requirements for taking in hostees under my wing:
- You have to impress me, either with your content or design (preferably both);
- I have to like you;
- You have to have a special affinity for the domain name; and
- You must be in dire need of webspace.
Granted, these are rather discretionary, but hey, this is my space, and I paid for the name, so I reserve the right to be choosy about who I take as hostees.
What you get:
- A special URL: http://YOU.beatifique.org/ and http://beatifique.org/YOU
If you do not like the *.ORG extension, you may opt for a *.NET or *.COM extension. Both Beatifique.NET and Beatifique.COM redirect to the main domain. - Space: 100MB
This is already more than enough, believe me — and you won’t run out, if you need more space just let me know! - Bandwidth: 2GB/mo
That means roughly 200,000 visitors a month. - FTP: 1 account
- Beatifique Email: Your choice of POP3 or email forward, under the Beatifique domain extension you chose
- PHP 5 and CGI-BIN
- MySQL access
I would have to create the database for you, so we’ll have to keep in touch. :) - Installation of secure scripts
Such as Wordpress and Enthusiast — for others, we’ll have to talk. ;)
Some tips
Impressing me isn’t very hard. You simply have to show experience in your work. I prefer someone with at least one year of webdesign experience, one who knows what FTP is and how to use it (one who owns an FTP client like FileZilla or CoreFTP would be even better). If you are a novice or just starting out in webdesign, chances are I will not accept you.
I like most people, anyway. I just cannot take people whom I perceive to possess attitude problems, who come off as arrogant or snobby, who have appalling grammatical errors, and who have E-V-I-L spelled in their blood. You know what I mean. My hostees cannot be advocates of hate (racists, bigots, Christianity and Catholicism, especially) in any form. They cannot be copiers, or drama queens (or kings), or backstabbers.They also cannot be idiots. I’m not looking for the A-type Intellectual, just someone who shows s/he’s using his/her brain well.
Plus points: Those who share my interests (going through my site helps), who aren’t phony, and who are, all in all, good people. I will go through your whole site to get a sense of who you are, so just be yourself and we’ll probably be fine.
I have to get along with you. So it’s preferable that you like me back. ;) I may be
impressed with your work and I may like you on a cursory inspection, but if things don’t work out we have to be able to at least part ways civilly.
Preferred sites: Portfolios, writing sites, fanfiction archives (depends on the pairing and the series), photoblogs, fanlisting collectives, site collectives, art sites, small fansites. I don’t particularly like blogs, but you’re welcome to try. No-no’s are graphic sites, download sites, or a replica of any of my pages (i.e., awards, plugsite, gamesites). I’ll accept cliques if I like the idea. Animanga sites are more than welcome — kindly go through my joined fanlistings to know what I like and what I don’t.
Once accepted you must:
- Update at least once every two months, unless it’s by special arrangement (we’ll have to talk about this)
- Keep in touch with me through commenting on my blog at least twice in a month, or through email (I do want to get to know you)
- Link Beatifique.ORG through a text link at the footer or sidebar of every page of your site (customize it however you want)
- Follow all the terms and conditions provided by my host at all times. (I will be emailing you this once you’re accepted. I will not set up your account unless you’ve promised to reply.)
